BUILDING OUT THE ORAN ECOSYSTEM FOR END-TO-END CLOUD STRUCTURE DEPLOYMENTS AT SCALE
Open RAN will only be successful at scale if the vendor ecosystem expands and works together to deliver cloud-based solutions within common or interoperable standards and specifications. The development of open network infrastructure calls for collaboration, which can often be made difficult by fluctuating geo-political tensions, commercial tensions, and standardization challenges. The creation of end-to-end ORAN blueprints must be borne out of collaboration and vertical integration, as the concept of an open interface does not work without coordination. What can the existing ecosystem do to allow, and foster, innovation from players across geographies and company sizes whilst all working towards the same standards and specs? What are some of the key R&D advancements required to create a robust, interoperable, and complementary vendor ecosystem? Will multi-vendor networks become the “new normal” for future generation networks? How can programmability and SDN principles be brought into Open RAN planning for self-configuration and control of the radio access network?
